Cocoa hills, Idanre rocks, and a bit of Atlantic
The Deji of Akure, Osemawe of Ondo, and Olowo of Owo preside over historic Yoruba kingdoms. Owo is known in art history for terracottas and a palace museum culture. Idanre Hills — a UNESCO World Heritage tentative-list landscape of old town, steps, and rock — are the state's great natural-cultural monument. Igbo Olodumare, associated with the writer D. O. Fagunwa's forest imaginary, is interpreted as a tourist grove in the north.
Coastal Ilaje and Ijaw-related communities add oil and fishing to a mostly Yoruba farm map. Heritage is hill, palace, and cocoa, with a shoreline that reminds visitors this South West state also touches the sea.
